The Cincinnati Bailliage cast away their winter blahs with a spectacular dinner at the Mercer OTR restaurant in the heart of a newly renovated section of downtown Cincinnati known as “Over the Rhine”.
This Italian European bistro is owned by Jon Zipperstein, managed by Emmy Fredericks, and supplied with innovative offerings by Chef Dan Stoltz. The restaurant has a chic cane bistro decor and cleverly allows patrons to look out through large picture windows onto the bustling downtown Cincinnati scene. Mr Zipperstein’s first foray into the downtown was a popular nearby Asian eatery named Kaze, and the consensus is that the Mercer is equally outstanding.
Delectable appetizers were served followed by a five course extravaganza including grilled octopus, steelhead trout, confit duck leg, braised short ribs, and a grand finale of chocolate grasshopper cake.
All courses were meticulously paired with wines selected by the exceptional palates of Vice Echanson Mike Monnin and his wine committee.
Our dinner was initiated by Bailli George Elliott after attending a memorable wine dinner here and the courses were all well coordinated by Chef Stoltz in concert with Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Barbara Lancor.
The ambiance, cuisine, and camaraderie of made this an evening to remember.
